Keisha Kerr Make-up Artist

My name is Keisha Kerr. I am a makeup artist for film, TV, bridal and corporate businesses. I am currently expanding my brand into beauty products this 2020.I originally started out as a business administrator and while working in that industry I felt the life being sucked out of me each day. As stable as it was for my two children, and I, I had a strong sense that there was something else meant for me.I started out by gathering a couple friends and doing makeup on them (which took me 2 hours) then got a friend of mine who was into photography at the time to take pictures of them. I posted these images to a popular website for photographers, makeup artists, models and hairstylist hoping to get a call back. I crossed my fingers and said a prayer! I wanted this to be my career SO bad I just needed to get my foot in the door.Shortly after, I received a message from a makeup artist who needed some assistance with an upcoming wedding. She asked me if I would be interested in joining her team. I was SO EXCITED to get a paying gig (I honestly love doing it so much I would’ve done my first one for free!)

The first booking was fast paced, nerve-wracking, scary and exciting all at once. I took my time doing their make-up because I wanted them to look perfect!

However, I lacked self-confidence, I was unorganized so I had trouble finding what product or brush I needed which took even more time, I didn’t have all the necessary tools or products (OMG! I need to have skincare products too!?!) I was a mess! But this experience taught me so much! Through my mistakes I learned exactly what is expected from a professional make-up artist and for certain clients, I learned being prepared and organized saves you time in the long run and helps boost your confidence.I also learned what tools and products are a must-have in order to be successful as a makeup artist. As I started learning the ins and outs of the business and getting quicker and more organized, my makeup skills improved and my clients were happier with the results! My confidence grew, and more and more people began to request me as their artist for their special evens through the makeup artist who initially gave me my first gig. Today I have branched out as an independent make-up artist and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to be mentored by a seasoned artist and I apply everything I have learned from the good to the bad.
