Hello, my name is Faith! I work with Girl Power’d , a hip- hop gymnastic program made specifically for young girls who identify as Black. The main goal of GP is to teach girls who identify as Black confidence, self- love, and provide them a sense of community through the discipline of gymnastic and dance. Prior to COVID -19 we ran out of a fully-equipped gym in North York, but are currently providing online gymnastics and dance classes that are focused on African- diasporic dance. Our head coach and co- founder, Brittnee Habbib, is a highly trained professional gymnast and dancer, whose skills in gymnastics have allowed her to represent Canada around the world. Brittnee’s own experiences as a Black girl in gymnastics allowed her to see the need for programs like this to support young Black female athletes and creatives in a white dominated industry.
