I got the inspiration for Indy Mindy while I was at Walmart. I was looking around for cute PJs to buy my little nieces, but I didn’t see any with Black characters. Being Black myself, and having Black nieces, I wanted to buy them some PJs that represented themselves and their family. I ended up buying cute, but generic onesies and then left. Later that day, I called my sister to let her know I bought her kids some PJs. I told her about trying to find cute clothes with Black people on them, but not being able to find any…
And then it hit me !
I should do it! I should build a brand made for Black children. A brand that encourages, empowers and represents Black children.
My first idea was to create a clothing line with Black characters, but what was going to be special about them. I myself want to be a doctor, and I decided why not run with that. Why not create a line that has Black professionals, so kids can have someone to look up to and identify with. I told my sister and she LOVED the idea. I then reached out to a graphic designer, and BOOM! Indy Mindy was born.
I got the name Indy Mindy from my baby niece. Her name is Integrity, and since this idea was partially because of her, I decided to use her nick name. Indy Mindy.
